The scenes in Frozen Ever After are just spectacular, and this one in particular was pretty cool. This is the animatronic that everyone seems to be talking about, and for good reason. It’s spectacular. I did some bit of retouching on her face to get this to look halfway decent. Straight out of camera, those projection faces are just awful looking.
We just got back from EPCOT after probably the shortest mid-day trip to Disney ever. I gotta say, Frozen Ever After has won me over. Although I’ll always miss Maelstrom, this ride is definitely fantastic. The scenes are great, I love the storytelling, and the animatronics are amazing. It’s great to see an improvement over even the recent Seven Dwarves application. Although I’m not a fan if the inner projection face mapping, as it’s very difficult to get the luminosity to match what the rest of the animatronic looks like, you can’t beat the way the characters can sing and talk with the projection mapping. Can’t wait to go on this one many more times. Once the lines die down…
We checked out the new Star Wars fireworks, being huge fans of the previous Symphony in the Stars show. On opening night, many people decided to watch and photograph from Hollywood Blvd. That was a big mistake! The view of fireworks down Hollywood Blvd past the Starbucks is all but completely blocked by the buildings on Hollywood Blvd to the right. That, plus being somewhat far away from the Chinese Theater where projects are mapped on, makes viewing in a previously fantastic spot for Symphony in the Stars a bust. We returned the 2nd night and watched from Echo Lake and in front of the Chinese Theater. Significantly better view. There also were seemingly significantly more fireworks that opening night. I was very sad after opening night that we would never get to see a version of Symphony in the Stars again at Hollywood Studios, but after the 2nd night viewing, my hopes are slightly better.
